Download an IPS Patcher such as Lunar IPS or FLIPS 2. Acquire a clean unmodified Super Metroid (JU) [!] ROM file (will not work with the PAL version) 3. Place the SuperMetroid ROM, the .IPS patch and Lunar IPS.exe into the same folder 4. Double click on Lunar IPS or FLIPS, click "Apply Patch". 5. Select the .IPS file. 6. Next it will have you select a ROM file to apply the patch to. 7. Download an SNES emulator. 8. Find your emulator after installing, and double click it (the .exe file). 9. Go under "File", then "Open ROM", and look for the ROM. If you applied it correctly, the game should load. *Difference between SNES and GBA controls* - Prior to version 1.3 : each control scheme is available in a seperate .IPS patch - From version 1.3 : control scheme can be enabled via "special" menu screen *Game modes* - Super: Starts with all major upgrades (NG+) - Easy: All enemy damage halved, enemy behavior slightly changed, several blockades removed. - Normal: Standard veteran difficulty. If you have trouble with this mode, try Easy. - Hard: Pickups grant less energy, ammo and you must find Aux. Power Cells to activate Aux. Power Stations. Not suited for a first playthrough. - Omega: Starts with Disruptor Beam, Morphing Ball, Bombs, and both Speed Boosters, and you get nothing else until you have collected all Power Suit Shards. - X-Mode: Join the X to get the SA-X suit. *Special techniques required to progress* - Super/Easy/Normal: shinespark - Hard: shinespark, walljump - Omega: shinespark, walljump, infinite bomb jump, shortcharge, crystal flash *Crystal Flash* - Consumes missile ammo. to restore health. - You need have less than 30 energy left, at least 11 missiles. - In morph ball, fire off a power bomb then L+R+DOWN+SHOOT at the same time. *Overcharge* - Consumes power bomb ammo. to increase Charge Beam damage. - SM control scheme : charge a beam with power bomb selected. - GBA control scheme : press SELECT once then your next charged beam will overcharge. *LV.2 Speedbooster* - Removes health cost for shinespark. - Allows momentum keep when somersaulting. - Maintains Speed Booster when turning around while somersaulting. - Increases the duration of the charge to launch a shinespark. - Recharges X-Reserves faster. *Spike Breaker* - Breaks spike blocks on contact.
